Police Brutality

 

Plaintiff was shot and killed while driving his car by an off-duty Detroit police officer without provocation. The family of the deceased sought compensation for wrongful death and demanded a jury trial.

 

Result: $1.5 million settlement

 

Plaintiff was arrested, detained and booked for murder by Detroit police without reason, without evidence or any legal just cause. Plaintiff was incarcerated for a total of three days without given a phone call, a change of clothes, the right to an attorney or even offered a toothbrush. Plaintiff was simply a resident in the same neighborhood a crime was committed.

 

Result: $450,000 verdict

 

Plaintiff was attacked and beaten by four Detroit police officers while idly standing by as a family member was loading equipment into a truck. The beating caused injuries to the plaintiff’s head, neck, back, and right forearm. He required surgery and physical therapy due to some of his sustained injuries Plaintiff could not work for a total of 8 months.

 

Result: $412,500 arbitration

 

Plaintiff was a 22-year-old young man who was shot and killed by an off duty Detroit police officer without any justifiable provocation. Not only did the office not identify himself as a policeman before firing his weapon, but could not give a reason for the shooting. The officer alleged Plaintiff was fleeing the scene of a robbery.

 

Result: $337,500 settlement

 

Plaintiff was beaten and left in an empty lot by Detroit police officers. He required emergency surgery on his hip needing a fusion, metal hardware and subsequent physical therapy.

Result: $275,000 settlement

Plaintiff was assaulted by a Detroit police officer after surrendering for running from the officer in question due to driving an unregistered vehicle. He was beaten so badly that he required extensive dental work after having his front teeth kicked out and suffered both nerve damage in his elbow.

 

Result: $185,000 settlement

 

Plaintiff, an autistic gentleman, was struck by a police vehicle while walking down the street. He sustained severe back and ankle injuries that resulted in his inability to work.

 

Result: $125,000 settlement

 

Plaintiff was beaten by Detroit police officers with no provocation. He suffered a back injury and as a result, was unable to work and accrued medical expenses.

Plaintiff was the passenger in a van that was legally parked outside of a local business. Detroit police officers approached the

vehicle and opened the door and pulled him out and arrested and incarcerated him for no apparent reason. Plaintiff suffered nerve damage from the injuries he sustained from unnecessary force.

Plaintiff’s home was broken into by Detroit police officers where plaintiff (a handicapped individual) and his brother were knocked down and questioned while inside their own home for crimes they were neither involved with nor guilty of committing. This incident occurred in front of several witnesses. Both plaintiffs suffered injuries.

 

Result: $55,000 & $20,000 settlements

 

Plaintiff was driving with a companion to a wedding. An unmarked police car pulled her vehicle over for no apparent reason but the plainclothes officers did not identify themselves as Detroit policemen. Her companion drove off because he was frightened for their safety. Moments later, a police car along with the same unmarked vehicle pulled them over again and pulled both passengers from their car and harassed and beat them. They were arrested and taken to the police station. The plaintiff’s car was impounded and when she was released from jail, was left stranded alone and keyless in the middle of Detroit still dressed for her event.

 

Result: $66,000 settlement

 

Plaintiff was pulled over by Detroit police for allegedly not having his lights on. He was searched, arrested and incarcerated for carrying a weapon without proof of a valid CCW. He suffered injuries to his lower back and shoulder. Plaintiff lost his job due to his inability to work and incurred medical expenses. All allegations were false. Plaintiff not only had a CCW license but had presented it to the police office at the scene.

 

Result: $60,000 settlement

 

Plaintiff was exiting the hospital where his pregnant mother was staying and was accosted by security and placed in a holding tank after being beaten and maced by the officers who had no legal justification. He suffered injuries to his neck, shoulder and spine. He was unable to immediately return to work and required daily assistance with standard tasks.

Motor Vehicle Accidents

 

Plaintiff (a mother of three young children) was a passenger in a car that was crushed when a semi -tractor trailer crossed a median and landed atop of the vehicle. Plaintiff suffered severe injuries resulting in her death.

 

Result: $2.55 million settlement

 

Plaintiff’s vehicle was backed into by a city garbage truck without warning. Her vehicle was a total loss. She required neck surgery and ongoing physical therapy for back injuries. She is no longer able to do physical work.

 

Result: $1.5 million verdict

 

Plaintiff was the passenger in a tractor trailer on an Indiana interstate that was struck causing his spinal cord to snap. Plaintiff, a Michigan resident, received compensation under both Michigan and Indiana wrongful death statutes after settling conflicts between state laws including bankruptcy claims.

 

Result: $1.35 million settlement

 

Plaintiff was involved in an automobile accident in which he sustained severe injuries to his back. The case was settled on the 3rd day in circuit court in Oakland County.

 

Result: $950,000 settlement

 

Plaintiff was riding his bicycle with friends when he was struck by a drunk driver. The driver fled the scene, leaving him on the side of the road. He suffered a very severe brain injury requiring multiple surgeries and 24-hr care.

Plaintiff pulled his semitrailer over on to the shoulder of an interstate in Virginia when he was rear ended by a motorist who was not paying attention to the road. Plaintiff required back surgery as a result of the accident.

Plaintiff sustained back, shoulder and knee injuries after being thrown from a city bus that was struck by a vehicle exiting a private drive. He since was unable to return to work or lead a normal life. He had to cease all forms of treatment after being unable to pay his medical bills. Plaintiff was awarded all of his outstanding benefits with interest all in arbitration. Pain and suffering case will resolve separately.

Plaintiff was injured in an auto accident while riding as a passenger when a car collided with his vehicle. Plaintiff sustained severe and permanent injuries to her right forearm after tripping and falling on a cracked and broken highway in Belle Isle during the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Walk. Surgery was required to repair a fractured arm followed by six weeks of necessary physical therapy. Premises Liability

 

Plaintiff slipped and fell on ice on the premises of a privately owned business. He sustained significant injuries to his leg which resulted in his inability to return to work and required several surgeries with no end in sight. Plaintiff was originally offered nothing in compensation for loss of wages, medical expenses and/or emotional stress.

 

Result: $1.12 million jury verdict

 

Plaintiff slipped and fell on black ice at a gas station upon exiting her vehicle. The gas station attendant had failed to check the property in the morning for any signs of potential dangers. As a result of her fall, Plaintiff required surgery on her right shoulder

and suffered tremors in her hand.

 

Result: $305,000 arbitration

 

Plaintiff was assaulted by an intoxicated bar patron while he was exiting the premises. Defendant threw the man through a glass window causing severe laceration to his right arm.

 

Result: $50,000 settlement

 

Plaintiff was struck by a large metal framed tent that had become dislodged during a storm. He suffered injuries to his back, shoulder and kidney. The tent also damaged his vehicle. He was unable to immediately return to school or carry on with normal activities.

Servicemembers Civil Relief Act

Plaintiff and family were wrongly evicted from their home while plaintiff was on active duty for the United States Army, National Guard in Iraq, therefore violating the Servicemember’s Civil Relief Act.
